Nucor Steel Berkeley Expansion Project Underway
State-of-the-Art Facility to Create 400 New Jobs
Nucor Corporation, a leading steel producer, has broken ground on a $425 million expansion project at its Nucor Steel Berkeley mill in South Carolina. The project is expected to create 400 new jobs and will increase the mill's production capacity by 500,000 tons per year.
The investment will see the construction of a new galvanizing line, which is used to protect steel from corrosion. This line will be the most advanced in the world and will allow Nucor Steel Berkeley to produce high-quality, corrosion-resistant steel for a variety of applications, including automotive, construction, and infrastructure.
The Nucor Steel Berkeley mill currently employs nearly 1,000 people and utilizes the services of up to 350 contractors. The expansion is expected to create 400 new jobs, bringing the total number of employees at the mill to 1,400.
The galvanizing line is expected to be completed by mid-2024. Once operational, it will allow Nucor Steel Berkeley to produce a wider range of products for its customers.
