Manchester United shock Manchester City to win the FA Cup
Garnacho and Mainoo goals give underdogs famous victory
Manchester United defied the odds to defeat overwhelming favorites Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Saturday, with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scoring the goals that secured a famous victory for the underdogs.
United started the game brightly and took the lead after just 10 minutes when a flowing move ended with Garnacho sweeping the ball home from close range. City responded well and created a number of chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past United's resolute defense.
The second half was a more even affair, but United continued to look the more dangerous side and they doubled their lead in the 63rd minute when Mainoo pounced on a rebound to score his first goal for the club. City pulled one back through Riyad Mahrez in the 76th minute, but it was too little too late as United held on to secure a famous victory.
The win is United's first FA Cup success since 2016 and it is a major boost for manager Erik ten Hag, who has now won a trophy in his first season in charge. It is also a huge achievement for the United players, who have shown great character and resilience to overcome a number of challenges this season.
Manchester United's victory is a reminder that anything is possible in football. Even when the odds are stacked against you, with the right attitude and determination, anything is possible.
